WorkAbility Employment Pathways Facilitator

The Opportunity

The Experiential Learning Hub plays a critical role in fostering student success and employability and supports the institution’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to apply their learning in real-world contexts. The department provides career development for UofG students including co-operative education, career education, campus and community-integrated learning, and experiential learning development and recognition. These areas are supported by business operations, marketing and communications, employment services and systems. The University has the fourth largest co-operative education program in Ontario, with over 5,000 participating students. Thousands more students engage in a broad range of co-curricular learning opportunities both on and off-campus.

At the University of Guelph, employers have many opportunities to recruit top talent for their organization and to increase their brand visibility on campus. Our new UofG WorkAbility program is a work experience program for students with disabilities, funded by the David C. Onley Initiative 2.0 and the Province of Ontario.

The UofG WorkAbility Employment Pathways Facilitator (EPF) will curate existing resources for students with disabilities to help navigate the employment process and transition to the workplace. This is not limited to but will include:

  • Resumes
  • Cover letters
  • Interviews
  • Setting learning goals
  • How/when to disclose
  • How to ask for accommodation
  • Provide job search/application support to students
  • Facilitate career exploration for students and work with them to identify their strengths and skills

In addition to preparing and supporting UofG WorkAbility program participants, the WorkAbility EPF will build relationships with employers, conduct job development for the program, and provide resources and training as needed to employers. The WorkAbility EPF will conduct 2-3 site visits to ensure a smooth transition to the workplace, ensure an effective feedback loop is in place between employer and student, secure a final evaluation of the program and student from the employers, and a final reflection from the participating students.
