This Associate Director position has management oversight of all the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business Co-op and Career Centre. Please note that the Business Co-op and Career specific qualifications are:
Master’s degree in Business Administration or appropriate discipline, including education and experience in disciplines closely related to the degree programs in UVic’s Faculty of Business
The salary range for this position is: Recruitment range: $76,850- $86,493 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
Performance range: starting salary to max of $100,456 is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
The Associate Director, Co-operative Education Program and Career Services (is responsible for managing a comprehensive Co-operative Education and Career Services program including undergraduate and graduate recruitment, admissions and advising functions, as well as co-operative education placements and career services, along with managing academic and administrative aspects of Co-operative Education programs and other forms of experiential learning, as appropriate, within assigned departments or portfolio.
Receiving supervision from the Director of Operations and working directly with the Executive Director and the Dean or unit head of assigned portfolio, the Associate Director, Co-op and Career will work closely with related faculty in developing the strategy and managing the planning, marketing and delivery of the co-op and career programs found within the assigned Co-op and Career unit. The Associate Director, Co-op and Career will work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff to ensure the effective functioning of the unit, and will provide direction for program marketing in order to build and develop relationships with co-op employers locally, nationally, and internationally. Additionally, the Associate Director, Co-op and Career will be responsible for administration, budget planning and allocation of resources, and will provide leadership and management to a team of professional and support staff. Some travel, within Victoria, including overnight throughout Canada and internationally, will be required.
As a professional member of the Co-op and Career Services team, the Associate Director, Co-op and Career supports delivery of services, initiatives and events as required to meet service standards and expectations.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will have a related Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline and at least five years of management experience, a strong directly relevant professional network and five years of related work experience. Education and experience must reflect disciplines closely related to the degree programs in the co-op and career program disciplines found within the assigned Co-op and Career unit. An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience may be considered where appropriate.
Engineering and Computer Science/Math Co-op and Career specific qualifications:
- Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or science, including education and experience in disciplines closely related to the degree programs in UVic’s Faculty of Engineering.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGBC or equivalent certification in computer science (or eligibility for registration/certification) would be considered a strong asset
Business Co-op and Career specific qualifications:
Optional and Professional Co-op and Career Programs specific qualifications:
- Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline, including education and experience in disciplines closely related to the degree programs in the Optional and Professional Co-op and Career programs found in the UVic Faculties of Education, Fine Arts, Human and Social Development, Humanities, Law, Science or Social Sciences
In addition, the position requires the following abilities:
- Work and communicate effectively orally and in writing, with tact and diplomacy, with a variety of internal and external contacts
- Effectively administer, organize, plan and manage time
- Use sound judgment in the wording and the inclusion of pertinent and sensitive information
- Maintain confidential information
