Description:
Note: To safeguard the health of the UWinnipeg community — and support public health efforts — during the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the campus is closed until further notice. Staff are working remotely to deliver most services online and only some essential services remain open. The work described in this posting will be conducted remotely during this time.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Develops an annual plan and budget for the co-op education program and implements mechanisms for student and employer feedback.
  • Reviews co-op program policies and procedures annually to ensure relevance. Researches and recommends changes in policy or process to the Dean and implements approved initiatives.
  • Participates on internal committees, liaises with the University’s Director of Work Integrated Learning and External Partnerships and maintains a relationship with professional associations and accreditation bodies.
  • Keeps accurate and detailed student records on placements, work term reports, site visits and evaluations.
  • Reports annually on the performance of the co-op program.
  • Promotes the development of co-op education opportunities in other University departments and programs.
  • In consultation with industry, faculty experts and other on-campus staff with expertise, develops a curriculum and course outline for the non-credit job-prep course(s).
  • Maintains the Nexus site and oversees the delivery of the non-credit course(s).
  • Collaborates with other University departments and areas on job preparedness and career development training, maximizing internal resources in this area.
  • Screens applications and selects students for admission into the Co-op Education program.
  • Monitors and evaluates students’ performance throughout their time in the program.
  • Coordinates opportunities for student professional development while in the program with the support of the Student Engagement Assistant, as required.
  • Maintains accurate information on the career services available to students at UW and refers students to these services as required and as appropriate.
  • Conducts site visits for students completing their work terms.
  • Provides on-going support to students in the Co-op Education program and employers of co-op students.
  • With support from the Student Engagement Assistant, prepares student- and employer-facing marketing materials for recruitment purposes.
  • Provides information sessions and in-class presentations to promote the co-op program.
  • Following the FBE’s communications guidelines, maintains the Co-op Education Program website and social media pages.
  • Works with the Business Development Officer (BDO) to identify, develop and maintain relationships with employers with the aim of building a network of reliable co-op placement hosts.
  • Coordinates the Co-op Education Program’s participation in the University’s recruitment and career fairs. Participates in external trade shows and events as requested by the Dean.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree is required
  • Three years of directly related office experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience in a post-secondary institution is preferred
  • Knowledge of provincial, federal, and international employment and labor policies is an asset
  • Knowledge of Co-operative Education program processes and procedures is an asset
  • Knowledge of The University of Winnipeg’s purpose, organization and communication channels
  • Familiarity with online learning and delivery
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation)
  • Ability to work cooperatively with faculty and staff at all levels of the institution and with a variety of external stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient in computer applications including MS Office, internet research and database management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Creative thinking and problem solving skills
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Possession and maintenance of a Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license is an asset.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
