Position – Work-Integrated Learning Facilitator
A Work-Integrated Learning Project for Black Students – a partnership between the Black Business and Professional Association (BBPA), Tropicana Community Services and Centennial College
Organizational Overview: Founded in 1983, the Black Business Professional Association (BBPA) is a nonprofit, charitable organization with a mission to advance Canada’s Black communities by delivering programs that support business and professional excellence, higher education and economic development. The BBPA hosts a number of skill development initiatives aligned with the principles of work-integrated learning (WIL) with entrepreneurship and mentorship being the more common elements in program design.
Position Summary:
The BBPA WIL Facilitator will work closely with the three partners to coordinate the project and achieve the goals outlined in the Business Higher Education Roundtable Master Funding Agreement. The goal of the project is to create a minimum of 65 new work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities by February 28, 2022. WIL opportunities will include full-time paid experiences (eg co-op, internships, work experiences) and project-based experiences (eg. applied research, etc).
Responsibilities:
• Engage at least 200 local Black-owned businesses and professionals to educate them about
the benefits of WIL
• Assist in the development of marketing and promotional materials to recruit both industry
partners and students
• Facilitate information sessions to engage industry partners and promote program
• Develop partnerships with businesses to create work experience opportunities for students
• Liaise with the Centennial Careers/Co-operative Education team to ensure effective
implementation of the program, including the career preparation, administrative, and
documentation requirements
• Coordinate career planning and employment preparation sessions with Centennial’s advising
team
• Match students to appropriate WIL opportunities in keeping with their career goals and/or
program learning outcomes
• Coordinate mentorship circles
• Administer employer agreements and verify that employers and host organizations can adhere
to safety protocols
• Monitor placements and work with both program participants and employers/project hosts to
enable a positive learning experience
• Work with relevant stakeholders in the development of the employer resource guide for
employers and host organizations to facilitate inclusive WIL experiences for Black and other
racialized students in post-secondary programs
• Assist in the development of the project evaluation plan
• Arrange a digital showcase event to highlight the success of the project and the contributions
of project participants
• Collect participant data in keeping with funding agreement
• Administer assessment tools to evaluate the learning experience, student and employer
satisfaction, and project outcomes
• Provide project updates to the advisory committee
• Prepare interim and final reports for the funding organization
Qualifications/Experience:
• 3-year diploma/degree - Business, Social Science or Communications discipline( i.e.
marketing, human resources or psychology)
• 3 years of experience in a sales, marketing or business development environment
• Strong relationship management and negotiation skills
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
• Track record working in a target-based, demanding environment, and meeting and exceeding
performance goals
• Proven ability to develop comprehensive project plans and establish work priorities
• Strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and also work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders
• Professionalism and diplomacy
• Knowledge of labour market, employment trends and college experiential learning
programming
• Computer literacy – experience with customer relationship management tools, MS Office
programs and social media tools
Salary: $50,000-$52,500
